The Uruguay international is intent on soaking in the atmosphere on Sunday after his debut for the Barcelona against Real Madrid passed him by.
Barcelona striker Luis Suarez admits he never thought he’d get to play in a match as big this Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid.
The Uruguay international had his first taste of one of the world’s great derby clashes in October last year, when he made his official Barca debut in the 3-1 defeat to Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Ahead of the return fixture, the former Liverpool striker says he is still getting used to the fact that he is set to become a Clasico regular.
“I never imagined that I’d play in a game of this magnitude,” he told the club website, adding that this time he hopes for a better result.
“I was focused on my nervousness about coming back to play. Aside from it being a Clasico, it was important for me. I didn’t enjoy it as you should enjoy a Clasico, let’s hope I can do it this time.”
Following a stuttering start to his time in Spain, the 28-year-old has now hit seven Liga goals and four to help Barca into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
“I’m happy and I feel like I’m really helping the team, something that makes me a lot calmer,” the attacker said.
“There was a time that I was very hard on myself, not just because I wasn’t scoring goals but also because I felt like I wasn’t helping the team, something that worried me. I always knew that the goals would come.”
