West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka will see his contract at the Hawthorns terminated, should his three-man hearing at the end of next month find him guilty of being anti-Semitic.
The Mirror believes that West Brom are already seeking legal advice on whether they are legally allowed to terminate the remaining months of Anelka's one year deal if his "quenelle gesture" is ruled to have broken FA regulations.
West Brom have also stated that even if they do not find enough legal grounds to terminate Anelka's contract, they will still go ahead and sack the Frenchman by handing him a pay-off for the terms of his one-year deal.
Anelka had used the quenelle gesture to celebrate a goal he scored for the Baggies back in the thrilling 3-3 draw with West Ham. His gesture sparked a serious enquiry into his reasons for the gesture after the FA deemed the gesture as anti-Semitic. The quenelle gesture is widely seen as a sort of inverted Nazi salute by Jewish groups and anti-racism organisations.
The storm following Anelka's actions has led to Zoopla ending their sponsorship deal with West Brom at the end of the 2013-2014. Anelka has since denied that he was being anti-Semitic with the gesture, citing that he performed the quenelle gesture in support of his friend and French comedian Dieudonné. Has also claimed that the quenelle is anti-establishment rather than anti-Semitic.
