The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
on Wednesday, flagged off a nationwide sensitisation programme for
Corps members that will be participating in the 2015 elections. Daily Independent (All Africa) report.
The Lagos State office of the NYSC commenced the exercise with Corps member deployed to Surulere Local Government Council on Tuesday moved to the premises of the All Saints Primary School, Yaba where members serving within Eti-Osa 1, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, and Lagos Island had their turn as they were taken through their various electoral duties on March 28 and April 14, 2015.
Speaking to the Corps members, Coordinator of the scheme in Lagos State, Mr. Cyril Akhanemhe, explained that the sensitisation programme will move to Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Council Secretariat for member serving in Agege, Alimosho, Ifako Ijaye, Ikeja, Shomolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu and Mushin councils in the state.
He advised them, “Go to the polling booths with your own water and food. Do not accept food and drinks from anybody. Don’t accept favour from any party agent or officials and do not board any vehicle not designated by INEC as the official vehicle to take you away from the polling booth.
“Do not run afoul of the electoral processes because doing so will land anyone that compromises in trouble and will be treated like a common criminal. The DG has given assurances for your safety. Fear no more. Go there and make the country proud because all eyes are on you by all and the international community.
“This country needs you to conduct a better election and you also need the country. Nigeria is calling on you to do well wherever you are deployed to because you will not be on the field alone. We will also be there to monitor and ensure your safety,” he assured.
Mr. Akhanemhe further urged the members to make the scheme proud just like their predecessors did in 2011.
