Steven Naismith, Johnny Heitinga and Magaye Gueye were on the scoresheet, as Everton brushed aside Stevenage 4-0 in the 4th Round of the FA Cup. The Blues were fairly dominant in the game, earning their first away win in 2014. Sadly for Everton, Bryan Oviedo was carried off in a stretcher with a broken leg, but Everton fans would be happy that they would be in the hat for tomorrow's draw.
The home side started putting a lot of pressure on the Premier League side. John Stones almost putting it into his own net. It was saved by Joel Robles, but he spilt it and Stevenage had a shot at goal, only to be blocked by John Stones.
Five minutes gone and Everton already had a goal. Kevin Mirallas had a strike at goal that was saved by Day, however, it fell to Aiden McGeady who pulled it back to Steven Naismith who buried it into the roof of the net. 1-0 Everton.
Stevenage where looking for a goal, Morais's cross was headed out from Tony Hibbert, which could've lead to a Stevenage goal. McGeady was fouled wide of the right, Leighton Baines decided to cross the ball into the area, unfortunately it was cleared to safety.
A few minutes later, Bryan Oviedo challenged one of the Stevenage players and sadly for Everton it ended horribly. Oviedo had to go off on a stretcher with a suspected broken foot. He was replaced by Leon Osman and the free-kick, despite being taken strangely, forced a good save from Joel Robles.
The following corner led to a Everton counter. The Blues countered and a deflected cross from Aiden McGeady found Leon Osman who somehow missed the target. A huge chance for Everton. It was end-to-end stuff, Gareth Barry brought down Luke Freeman in a dangerous area and the free-kick was taken by Filipe Morais, who forced a brilliant save from Joel Robles.
Half an hour played and Everton managed to put themselves two up. Leon Osman's through ball was intercepted by Ashton, only for him to take a poor touch which fell into the path of Steven Naismith. The Scotsman surged up field, and finished off cooly past Day and Everton went 2-0 up
Everton started to take control off the game. Stevenage were finding it hard to break Everton down and when they did, it was cleared by either Jagielka, Stones or Robles. McGeady was close to make it 3-0 with some great skill before trying to chip the keeper from range, only to be saved.
Gareth Barry was the next to have a shot at goal, the ball cleared out of the area before Barry unleashed a powerful shot - however the shot was blocked, which was the last shot of the first half.
Everton made their second substitute of the game, captain Phil Jagielka being replaced by Johnny Heitinga, possibly his last game for Everton.
Stevenage started more brightly than the Blues. The home side sending in a few crosses, one forcing a punch from Joel Robes, the others going miles wide.
The Toffees were next to have a shot at goal, Kevin Mirallas making a darting run into the area, the shot saved brilliantly by Day, but the following corner led to the 3rd goal.
Stevenage failed to clear the ball out of the area, Kevin Mirallas acrobatically overhead kicked the ball back into the danger area and it found the head of Johnny Heitinga to head the ball home for Everton's third.
After the hour mark the ball was in the back in the Stevenage net again, however, Naismith's chip over the goalkeeper was ruled out for offside.
